This is one of my absolute favourite books – it is utterly beautiful, mesmerising and a real work of art. Available in a stunning hardback edition (or paperback) it was published by Particular Books in 2015 and won the Waterstone’s Book of the Year prize.
It’s hard to find the words to describe this book and fully do it justice. It’s one that has to be held and felt to be truly appreciated; each page is a complete joy and a masterpiece in design and illustration, as much as the words. I would happily frame and hang any of the double page spreads on my wall and have spent hours reading and re-reading it.
The story is a fable, lyrically told, with skilful and emotive word choice. It’s a powerful exploration of loss and how we respond to change.
Fox has a best friend, Star, who is always there – until they are not. How will he navigate the dark and once familiar forest alone? Will he ever recover from the pain of Star leaving?
