Dilly the Donkey is an absolutely fabulous summer holiday read and will brighten up even the rainiest of August days. Bright and captivating illustrations add to the heart-warming story and positive messages to bring a smile to readers of all ages. Published by Pan Macmillan, July 2019, it is aimed at children aged 3+.
My three-year-old instantly loved ‘grandma’ Dilly (who enjoys pulling a cart of children to school every day) and was outraged when she is replaced (by a younger, trendier donkey!!). He was quite pleased when some dastardly thieves spot the newer-model-Dilly and plot to steal them and I think was hoping they’d be successful so Dilly could have her job back! I won’t give away the plot, or ending, but needless to say Dilly admirably proves that there are many valuable qualities that can grow with age.
This is the third picture book that Elli and Steven have worked on together and they are a successful combination! We hadn’t read either of their previous two books but will be looking out for them now in the library.
